A Busy Month in Recruiting

The month of November is always a busy one for us… but this year it was especially crazy. We had recruiters all over the United States spreading the word about summer positions with YouthWorks. Maybe you met one. Here are some of our highlights:

National YouthWorkers Convention in SanDiego and Atlanta:

At these events we were able to meet up with some great alumni who were attending the conference. It was so fun to connect with them throughout the weekends!

Alumni Connect at NYWC Atlanta

Serve Kokomo, Kokomo IN:

This was a cool event that gathered some alumni and their friends together to serve the community of Kokomo IN together and have some ridiculously fun times. Throughout the day we were also able to hear from a number of community leaders and learn from them.

Upcoming events:

Don’t forget that Connect 46:MPLS  is coming up! Block of your calender for January 6th – 8th and make plans to head to Minneapolis. We’ve been saving all the good stuff for this event. You won’t want to miss out!

Who will you invite to the table?

As thanksgiving approaches we are consistently reminded of how thankful we are for that staff that have served in communities during the summer. Remember that you have a story that needs to be shared with others.

As a fall thank you, we put together this quick video.

New Beginnings

Empty walls and clean desks mark the sign of a new year at YouthWorks.

In honor of the new beginning in our office and the new beginnings that so many are experiencing as they  move back into dorms or apartments, the following is a prayer of St. Patrick. May these words saturate the new-ness of life that we experience in this next season.

Christ Be With Me

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ where I lie, Christ where I sit, Christ where I arise,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Salvation is of the Lord.
Salvation is of the Christ.
May your salvation, Lord, be ever with us.

— St. Patrick

We Need Your Help!

Staffing 75 YouthWorks sites is a daunting task and requires a good deal of networking and intentionality. Every year around Mid-April we begin the hunt for our final staff.  Currently, we are still in need of about 20 Site Directors [male or female] and approximately 70 men to serve as site staff.

We need your help.

We recognize that our arms only reach so far and that we need to extend into networks outside of our own. That’s where you come in. For our site staff (not SD’s) we need men who have the potential to be leaders this summer and some experience in working with children, youth, missions or service projects. For our Site Directors we need staff who have a proven history of excellent leadership and are graduating seniors or of post-college graduation age (generally 22yrs or older).

Here are some ways you can help:

  • Send a Facebook message to a few friends who you know would be interested.
  • Mention our staffing needs in a FB status update once every few days for the next few weeks.
  • Tweet about our staffing needs.
  • Send an e-mail out to your campus (or alma mater’s) Career Services Department asking them to e-mail all           students.
  • Talk to a few friends personally.
  • Copy and paste this entire message and send it to someone who may know even more potential candidates.

Below you will find some basic text that you can pull information from to put in e-mails, facebook messages, Facebook status updates, tweets and career services e-mails.

The YouthWorks office is going shoeless.

On April 5, 2011, many of the YouthWorks office staff will be participating in the “One Day Without Shoes” awareness event by taking off our shoes all day, both in and out of our offices. We would love to extend a special invitation for all of our alumni community to join us remotely.

You may ask, “why?” Great question – millions of children live without shoes. Many are exposed to injury and disease each day and are not allowed to go to school without shoes. One Day Without Shoes is a day to raise awareness of the impact that a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life by taking off our own.
